Well this week is the start of my 2012 competition preparation. I am entering with many mixed emotions this year. Having a year off has been great for me to mentally be ready for the road ahead, but I have also placed myself in a harder starting position with double the amount of work ahead of me. For this reason, I have decided to give myself an extra 10 weeks of preparation to ensure I remain healthy and sane.
I had my skin folds done for the first time this week and the result was extremely higher than my previous starting number. The negative thoughts began to cloud my mind and I was very close to throwing the towel in. Rather than be overwhelmed by the big task ahead, I have broken it into small increments with weekly achievable targets.
People ask me why I want to compete again. I love competing for what the sport offers. I am not going through this journey to get to a physique that I want to maintain long term. (I have learnt from 2 previous attempts that this is impossible and only sets you up for failure and disappointment.) I am doing this because I love a challenge, I love the sport and I believe in myself.
Another big plan for this year is the launch of my new website which is exciting. I have so much more to offer and I can’t wait. We are also moving house late March and I have a photo shoot scheduled before my physique starts to transform. I think it is important to know and embrace the person I am for the majority of my life, and not the one standing on the stage for a mere 5 minutes or so.
Bring on 2012! I am ready!
